. . . lest they look in the mirror and see their reflection and then walk away, forgetting what they saw . . . (James 1:24).
Does someone think we're in a fog, in a 'La-La Land'," incapable of digesting what we just saw -- of critically and spiritually 'trying' what we just saw?
Just the other day, I got the feeling that someone was thinking we are blindly going about life, not paying attention to the subtile ways we are trying to be influenced . . .
I had just seen a trailer for an upcoming FOX television show called "Lucifer." Lucifer? Of all things, Lucifer?
Bible scholars and readers may know that name "Lucifer" as the one the King James Version uses to refer to satan, the devil himself.
To me, this represents a continuing attempt to beguile and blow smoke into the eyes of this world . . . We who know better or come to know better must pray and intercede here, desiring that shows and programming like this does not try to exalt itself. . . Imagine carving time out of one day or being sure to be in front of the television each week to watch "Lucifer." . . . let us not be fooled.
By devising a show with the name of the enemy, more and more people are allowing 'the enemy' into their homes, to sit and be entertained by him. . . . actually inviting him in . . . Let us not fall for this . . .
This just follows in a long line of television shows and what-not that seek to tantalize, entertain and even make palatable the things of this world that we were warned about. I'm particularly reminded of the preponderance of televisions shows celebrating witches and witchcraft and diabolicism in the form of vampires (most notably, "The Twilight Series"), zombies (in the wildy popular AMC series "The Walking Dead," about to enter its sixth season) and other living dead." On that last score, the Bible tells us that to be absent from the body --- dead -- is to be present with The Lord. So who or what is it that is dead and not with the Lord?
We applaud groups like One Million Moms, who are leading a campaign to rid the airwaves of the upcoming CBS show "Angel From Hell," about an angel character who is anything but upstanding and not a great example of what we envision angels to be. (Click here to read more about that campaign.)
If we're watching TV, let's not just let people feed us anything. Let's ask for better program. If it's a show about angels, what about shows like CBS's "Touched By An Angel," which ran for nine seasons?
Let us be ever-so careful to guard our eye gates and our ear gates and work (pray) to ensure that media does not become any more rampantly overrun with anti-Christ images and programming.
